Why can't I use the nominal pipe size in the formula?
Nominal size rarely equals the bore. A 2-inch Schedule 40 pipe has a 2.067-inch inside diameter; using ‘2’ overstates the volume by more than a third.
Do I use radius or diameter in the formula?
Either, as long as you are consistent: r² with the radius, or (ID/2)² with the diameter. Both give the same cross-sectional area.
How do I get gallons from cubic inches?
