Why these guides exist

The calculators answer a single question fast. The guides are for the moments when one number is not enough — when you need to understand why nominal size is not the bore, how to total a whole heating system, or how to convert a geometric gas volume into a real quantity. Each one links back to the tool that applies it, so you can read the reasoning and then get the number.

How to get the most from these tools

Three habits make every calculation here more reliable. First, always work from the true inside diameter: choose the pipe standard and size so the tool loads the published bore, or measure it directly, and never type the nominal size into a plain formula. Second, decide whether the line is genuinely full — pressure pipe usually is, but gravity drains and vented lines are not, so drop the fill level below 100% when that applies. Third, treat fittings, bends and valves as a small addition the straight-length model does not capture; the fittings allowance approximates them for you. With those three in place the result is exact to the precision of the bore you enter.

Choosing the right calculator

If you know the answer's unit, start from the unit page — gallons, litres, cubic feet, cubic metres, barrels or cubic yards. If you know the pipe, start from the material page so the correct bore loads for PVC, copper, PEX, HDPE or concrete.
